Transparency
The world demands transparency. Mankind demands transparency. In all spheres of life, no matters if it is in affectivity, in planet care or business. Transparency in relationships, purposes and communication. Acting transparently, honestly and clearly. That is what the world needs and that is the purpose of this report: Showing Givaudan’s achievements in a crystal clear and straight way. For the first time, we have followed the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines – a strict set of indicators that denotes the company’s commitment to sustainability and its relentlessness to present itself wholly, fully and with dignity. Like pure crystal, this report allows us to see Givaudan from inside out and everything we built in 2010. This is the way we are, think and act. Crystal clear and transparent like the best emotions and feelings.
Transparent Communication
The present report concerns Givaudan´s achievements during the period of January to December 2010 in Brazil.
Since 2006 the company has been disclosing its Social Balance annually according to Ibase´s (Brazilian Institute of Social and Economic Analyses) and Ethos Institute´s guidelines.
The report, for the first time published in a wider and more detailed version, follows the methodology and guidelines established by GRI – Global Reporting Initiative, a globally-renowned institution taken as a model for sustainability reporting.
Due to a wider and deeper content, the publication will be disclosed under the title Sustainability Report, instead of Social Report, as its last 2009 edition The report information framework is based on the five corporate sustainability pillars of the The Natural Step, an organization founded in 1989 in Swiss committed to the ecosystem assessment of sustainability.
The pillars, described in the Chapter “Sustainability in the 5 Pillars”, reflect our commitment to the environment, the economic prosperity and social responsibility and are supported on the management of all important aspects for our business success.
The structure included in the edition is established on a consensus decision taken in a work meeting held before the preparation of the report. The meeting was attended by executives from many areas of the company.
This is the first Givaudan´s experience with GRI model. For this reason, the company has decided for the C Level model, focusing on more relevant issues. By disclosing this edition, Givaudan aims at divulging its achievements, projects and prospects to the company´s different public, described in the Chapter “Transparent Performance”. We aim at accounting for the company´s activities concerning economic, social and environmental impacts in an objective and transparent way, as it has to be in all communication with our stakeholders.
The Social Responsibility Area coordinated the data collection for the preparation of the present report, with the support of all strategic areas.
