General Director Statement
I am honored and pleased to present this edition of our Social Balance that, from this date on, will be disclosed as Sustainability Report, which represents an improvement of our reporting on our activities to different publics. In 2010, Givaudan adopted the sustainability as a goal, translated into clear objectives based on five corporate pillars:
1. Raw Materials
2. Employees
3. Innovation and Development
4. Operations
5. Customers and Market
In order to provide the necessary structure, those five pillars are based on an additional dimension: ethics. It is an important value and is expressed in our businesses and in the way we do businesses. Symbolically, ethics is represented by transparency. This theme inspired the preparation of the present Report. It is our way of linking our assertions to our actions and beliefs.
In the present edition, besides reporting our accomplishments supported by the slogan “it is always possible to do more with less”, we are reassuring a series of commitments, such as waste reduction. All above can be summed up in the following points:
- we have set specific targets to reduce 20% of our energy consumption, 25% of our CO2 emissions, 15% of water consumption and 15% of waste generation, for the next nine years;
- Givaudan Institute has been effectively established;
- our growth has exceeded our competitors’, and is above market average figures;
- we have implemented deep changes in our structure, as a consequence of SAP system;
- we have concluded the construction of the new Fragrances Centre, a modern building designed under green architectural concepts.
Those and all others accomplishments mentioned in this publication have sown the seeds for the corporation growth next years. Thanks to the employees´ commitment, the company was able to take this important step forward.
Our 2011 goals are ambitious. One of them is to contribute firmly to the sales growth in Brazil, assuring a decisive role of our country in a global scenario.
Our business financial sustainability faces a unique and great challenge: to guarantee profitability in a highly volatile economic environment with heavy climate changes, which impact on our activities. Those issues encourage us even more to fight against waste.
Even before all these challenges, the opportunities are exceptional. Brazil is in the main stream of international investments, and is registering an outstanding economic growth. Givaudan needs to be prepared and have the appropriate structure and resources to meet a growing demand.
I count on your efforts and capability. Together we can really add, but if we are fully integrated we will be able to yield better results, assuring business growth in a transparent and sustainable way.
Enjoy your reading!
