Sustainability in the 5 Pillars
ACCORDING TO BRUNDTLAND REPORT, DISCLOSED IN 1987 BY THE WORLD COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT, THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IS DEFINED AS ONE WHO MEETS THE PRESENT NEEDS WITHOUT JEOPARDIZING FUTURE GENERATIONS. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PREMISE IS TO GENERATE BUSINESS PROFITS IN A RESPONSIBLE WAY, BY ENSURING THE CONTINUITY OF LIFE IN THE PLANET AND ESTABLISHING MORE HUMAN SOCIAL RELATIONS.

Searching for an appropriate balance of the sustainability tripod is a steady challenge and business demands ultimately require more efforts in one of the legs in detriment of the others. The company’s routine had to be adjusted to meet the needs of the Outlook Project for the SAP platform implementation: some employees were requested to work full time in the project, and the production flow had to be reorganized. Such changes required additional efforts to reach the goals which have negatively impacted on Givaudan´s SA8000 recertification process. The company has been striving for meeting the necessary requirements toward recertification.
Since July 2009, Givaudan has been setting up a global sustainability program showing its commitment to the environment, the economic growth and social responsibility. To strengthen those three sustainability issues, the company has established five pillars as the basis of all the company’s operations and decisions.
Raw Materials – Responsibility in Supply
Employees – Passion with Purpose
Innovation and Development – Developing Sustainable Creations
Operations – Driving Operational Excellence
Customers and Market – Product Impact
