Operations
Over the last few years Givaudan has been working on the Master Plan for the Site with a view to growing in a controlled way over the next 10 years. In line with global engineering standards, local legislation and the growth forecast the amount of natural resources that will be necessary for the expansion of all production areas has been estimated.
Some resources such as electrical energy, water and waste, which are critical for Givaudan’s operation, are more closely monitored.
Electrical Energy
In spite of the increased production volume, there was a 5% decrease in energy use per kg of product when compared to 2007.
This reduction was made possible by the improved management of the electrical system through inspections, analysis and adjustments. Also the deployment of improvements in the electrical network in the Vinhedo branch contributed to a more effective use of this resource.
In line with global standards, approximately 160 computer monitors – 50% of the company total – were replaced with LCD units, which use less energy, are more ergonomic and have less radiation.
Givaudan’s goal is to reduce energy cost by 10%, in the year 2009, through increased awareness in the areas of greater consumption, constant monitoring and tariff reduction.
Water
The Company reduced consumption of water supplied by the public system in 35% through the use of a well that is capable of producing 2.000m3/moths. Givaudan also plans to save this resource by using rainwater and treating the water used in its plants.
Waste Disposal
Givaudan monitors the production of waste and its correct disposal by certified firms.
The task of cleaning raw material containers was outsourced to a firm specialized in waste management previously audited by Givaudan. This resulted in better use of time and space.
Since January 2008 Givaudan has been operating the equipment that burns odors emitted by the Flavours plant resulting in a significant reduction of these gases in the environment.
At the end of 2008 the first steps were taken in partnership with a strategic customer to map opportunities for green house emission reduction along the supply chain.

Givaudan has important goals to improve its performance regarding the environment.
